With six RV camping and alternative accommodation properties across the Rocky Mountain West, it’s no secret that JET Hospitality loves the great outdoors, the All-American-roadtrip, and of course–all things RV! So as the weather warms up and the days get longer, it’s time to start thinking about getting your RV OR TRAILER ready for another season of adventure with us. Whether you’re a seasoned veteran or a first-time RV owner, there are a few key things you’ll want to do to make sure your rig is in tip-top shape for spring and summer travel.
1. Check your tires
Before you hit the road, it’s important to inspect your tires for signs of wear and tear. Look for cracks or bulges in the sidewalls, and check the tread depth to make sure it’s still within a safe range. If your tires are older than six years, it’s recommended that you replace them, even if they still look okay.
2. Service your engine
If you haven’t already, schedule a service appointment for your RV’s engine to ensure it’s running smoothly and efficiently. We love extended stay guests–but not because of a blown engine! This should include an oil change, air filter replacement, and a check of all the belts, hoses, and fluids.
3. Check your battery
Your RV’s battery is essential for powering everything from the lights to the appliances, so it’s important to make sure it’s in good working order. Test the battery to make sure it’s holding a charge, and replace it if necessary. You’ll also want to check the connections and clean any corrosion off the terminals.
4. Inspect your roof
Unless your RV or trailer is stored, your rig’s roof is exposed to the elements year-round, so it’s important to inspect it regularly for signs of damage. Look for cracks, tears, or punctures, and check the seals around vents, skylights, and other openings. If you find any issues, it’s best to have them repaired before they turn into bigger problems.
5. Check your water system
If you winterized your RV, you’ll need to de-winterize it before you can use the water system again. This involves flushing the antifreeze out of the pipes and filling the system with fresh water. You’ll also want to check the water heater and make sure it’s working properly.
6. Stock up on supplies
Before you hit the road, make sure you have all the supplies you’ll need for your trip. This includes things like bedding, towels, cookware, and food. You’ll also want to stock up on essentials like toilet paper, paper towels, and cleaning supplies.
